Andrew sent us a couple of photos on Monday, but I'm just now getting around to posting them! These are from E*'s baptism last Saturday (19 November.) Jerome showed them to a coworker of his who served his mission in Samara about 8 or 9 years ago. Jerome said something about the people not looking overly happy, at which point his coworker explained that the Russian people don't always show a lot of emotion outwardly because in years past (in the Soviet Union) "if you were smiling, then you must have something valuable - so people would follow you to your home, break in, and steal it." So, the people just got used to not showing a lot of outward (positive) emotion. Anyway, I thought that was an interesting insight.
